Transforming Women from the Outside In
In this issue:
Painless Footwear
Painless and Pretty? That is something I am always searching for. I have found a few tips on shopping for the right shoes, and some products that can help make cute shoes feel better.
-
Fortunately, gladiator-style sandals are popular, which help keep the foot in place, providing easier walking. Caged heels with ankle straps can have a similar effect.
-
A low heel, or "kitten heel" is still polished and dressy, but keeps your foot at a more normal angle, with less pressure on the ball of the foot. The heel should sit right under the center of the ball of the foot, for better stability.
-
Chunky, thick heels distribute weight more evenly and give more balance. However, don't wear the old ones from the nineties.
-
Platforms add height across the entire foot, not just the heel, for more even distribution.
-
Flats aren't always more comfortable. You're better off with a slight heel, and padding in the sole.
For more help with shoe comfort, try the various products at footpetals.com, like Strappy Strips that can be used on slingback straps, or any area that might be irritating. Killer Kushionz help absorb shock in both sandals or closed shoes.
Graphic T-Shirts
When I look in women's closets, I often find a lot of
solid-color t-shirts. When they want to break out
of that habit and try something new, but still want the
casual look and feel of t-shirts, I recommend graphic
tees, which have an artsy, vintage look, but are mostly
solid colors, and work well with several different
colors and layering pieces, both on top and bottom.
One of my favorite stores for vintage looks is
Fossil,
known for their watches. The only Fossil store in
the state of Washington that sells clothing is in
Westlake Center in downtown Seattle. But you can
also shop online.
This
Fossil Stitchy
Floral Tee is embroidered, which adds a nice texture
and vintage/artistic feel.
On May 4, I will be leading one of the breakout workshops at the Women in Business Luncheon Conference presented by the Sammamish Chamber of Commerce. It's open to all women, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Plateau Club in Sammamish. Go to sammamishchamber.org for more information and to register. Hope to see you there!
Clinton Kelly in Seattle
The host of "What Not to Wear" is making over real women all over the country, and Seattle is one of the stops. Clinton Kelly will be presenting the made-over women in a fashion show at Macy's at Alderwood Mall on Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. It's free, and I already have my reservation. To join me, or to find out more, go here.
If you're a Clinton fan, you can spend $100 at Macy's that day and get a copy of his new book, Freakin Fabulous, which he will sign for you.

My book, 100 Six-Word Lessons to Look Your Best from Head to Toe has more tips on how to dress for your body type, dress appropriately for work, and more. Only 9.95.
