Dresses That Enhance Your Shape
With oodles of styles at every price, dresses are more popular than ever this spring. Finding the right dress for your body type will work for almost any occasion and last for many seasons to come.
If your hips are your largest area:-
An A-line dress that skims the widest part of you will flatter your waist and hips.
-
A bold pattern will help camouflage any problem areas
-
A band around the waist emphasizes the narrowest part, creating an hour-glass silhouette
-
A halter neckline highlights your shoulders and helps balance out the hips

If your middle is your largest area:
-
Choose a dress that is distinctly broken up into top, middle, and bottom sections to help define a waist
-
A V-neck draws the attention to your face and away from your stomach
-
Banding under the bust highlights the narrowest part
-
A bold graphic print helps camouflage any problem areas

If your chest and/or shoulders are your largest area:
-
Look for styles that allow you to wear a supportive bra—stay away from spaghetti straps and strapless styles
-
A flutter sleeve helps to de-emphasize the chest
-
A wrap defines a waist, which helps to differentiate between chest and stomach
-
An A-line skirt balances out your top half
-
Avoid ruffles or embellishment that draws unnecessary attention to your chest

Youthful, Not Young
When it comes to creating a personal style, one of the biggest challenges is appearing youthful, not young. Someone who looks youthful has created a look that embraces her current age and stage in life; on the other hand, someone who tries to look young often ends up looking older than her biological age.
Mistake #1: Dressing in clothes from the junior’s section may make you look like you are back in high school, but for all the wrong reasons. Contrary to popular belief, wearing clothes meant for younger girls does not make you look younger. These clothes are cut differently than women’s clothing, and often create an unflattering silhouette.
Solution: Look for clothes that enhance your shape and give you the desired hour-glass shape. Clothes that fit properly will make you look and feel great no matter what your age.
Mistake #2: In today’s economic climate, everyone is looking to save money when buying clothes. However, cheaper clothing that targets teens is often not worth the savings. Dressing in disposable clothing makes you look disposable.
Solution: We certainly are not suggesting that everything in your wardrobe must be designer labels and premium fabrics. The important point is to focus on quality instead of quantity. Value is not just in the price tag; there are plenty of stores that carry quality items for prices that won’t break the bank, so you can invest in some important items without going over budget. Putting effort into finding well-made clothes shows the world that you respect yourself and your position in life.
Every woman’s style goals are different. For more concrete tips on looking youthful, not young, contact Patty Pacelli at patty@wardrobe-consulting.com for a wardrobe consultation.
